    Replace headset cartridge bearings?

I've got over 60K miles on my bike, I just took off the stem and inspected the bearings. The're sealed and there's no way to inspect them. Everything was reasonably clean, I haven't ridden in the rain, there is no play or roughness in the steering. Should I replace the bearings anyway?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

However, if the bearings have rubber seal covers, you can gently pry them off with a sharpened paper clip, and add more grease.

And here's a tip to increase headset longevity: Before every ride, pick up the front end of your bike and rotate the handlebars lock-to-lock a couple times. It redistributes the balls and spreads the grease. Headsets typically turn so little that failure is due to pressure displacing the grease under the balls, and the seldom moving balls hammering little pits into the races.

If it's a CK headset, there are instructions on their site and on YouTube on how to grease and replace the bearings.

How would you like it if Hitler killed you

Buying parts to hang on your bike is always easier than getting fit.
