Question Replacing Dia Compe G brakes - Super Le Mans

    Hello,

First post here. So hope its the place to be.

I have an old Centurion Super Le mans with Dia Compe G brakes. I need to replace them since there outdone now.

Has anyone some experience with this. The new brakes doesnt have to be dia-compe G, just new ones and about same size. does anything go?

There are a number of inexpensive options you could go with, e.g., Tektro, or Shimano's lower-priced calipers. Your biggest issue will likely be finding brakes with arms long enough to let you lower the pads to meet the rim.

This article may be helpful to you: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/calipers.html

One thing: When you say the brakes are "done," is it possible that a pad change is all that's needed? Newer rim brakes are appreciably better, but if your riding style isn't particularly demanding, the old ones may just need new pads.

Ditto for cables, new cables and housing on an old bike can also make a difference in performance, because modern cabling systems work better.
