Shimano MTB front derailleur on a road bike triple

Does anyone know if a down-pull XTR front derailleur would work with a Shimano road triple setup (D/A 7803)? I would be using D/A 7803 shifters and a 7803 triple crankset with the XTR front derailleur.

The official answer is no. My unofficial answer is sorta. Its not quite right, but with some fussing, you'll prolly get it to shift.

Yer better off with a road triple front der.

Shimano MTB front derailleurs work great with bar end and down tube shifters but not so hot with indexed STI road gear. I have found them to be less than optimal and always pulled them for a road triple front D.
