    Ultegra 6700 11-28 onto a DA 7800 RD?

    Hi All,

I'm picking up another wheel set and noticed Ultegra cassettes are on sale. Currently running 12-27 but they don't have that in Ultegra (it's cheaper than 105 currently). Will a Ultegra 6700 11-28 cassette work on DA 7800 RD? The spec sheet says it will take 29 teeth or less but then says the largest sprocket is 27? Link Maybe 11-28 wasn't available back then?

Feedback would be great. I plan on using the cassette on two bikes, one with DA 7800 RD and one with Ultegra 6700 RD (which I believe works fine).

    Thanks!

... works on my RD7900 ... and noticed the difference in specification too

I am sure someone may have used that combination before. It is only 1T difference in sprocket size but I am not going to put myself on the line by saying that it will work.

It will probably work but I can't say for sure.

Where are the Ultegra cassettes on sale; what's the price?

Odds are it will work. One cannot say with certainty because the length of the derailleur hanger plays into it.

I was just checking Nashbar a minute ago and they have a 105 12-27 for $45.
Shimano 105 CS-5700 Cassette - Road Bike Cassettes

They are having a 20% off sale today also, but Shimano components are not discounted.

If you were running a 12-27 do you have a standard (52 or 53 ring) crank? If so, using an 11-28 cassette will give you a giant big gear that you'll probably not be able to use. Just something to consider.

    I'm on a SRAM Force 50/34 crank with a DA 7800 RD.

Other is Ultegra 6700 50/34 crank and 6700 RD.

Yeah, you're good then. A lot of guys are going with 50/34 and 11-28.

It is flat where I live so I'm thinking the 12-27 for mine. Don't need the 28 for climbing or the 11 for descending.

Thanks Randy, hope it works! There are a few hills around here where I wished I had another gear.
