    Merckx Alu-Cross

I'm doing a series of pieces on bikes of the not so rich and famous. You've all see the pro bikes featured in VeloNews, cyclingnews.com and other media outlets. Well, I'm showing you the bikes the guys lining up next to you might be riding.

    http://www.hoyerfamily.com/cyclocross/

I did my own race bike to kick off the series. I hope to do Dave's (DPCX) bike soon plus a couple Ridleys and a Vanilla from my teammates.

    Here are the pics:

It works with Firefox 2.0.0.4. However, I get nothing with IE 7. Check the blog entry for the whole slide show. Here are some of the photos ...

That's MUCH better. Sweet bike. What brakes are those (I have FF @ home, but sadly, I'm at work)?

Old-school Avid Tri-Aligns. Awesome find if you can score some. They pop up on eBay every so often.

    Sweet bike, Gripped!

I've got the replace the stem. The Ritchey stem I've got now has the interlock bar clamp design and I can't hang the cable hanger thingie off a stem bolt so as to raise the straddle hanger. I don't like the fork based cable hanger block on there now.

I have seen that trick with Easton stems, like on Josh's Rock Lobster:

What other stems can you do this with?

I have a question about the cable guides on the top tube. Do they still allow for a slight cable adjustment, like when the guides are on the downtube, or can you only adjust the cables at the derailleurs? Thanks

In lieu of downtube-mounted barrel adjusters you can use in-line cable adjusters, like these:

or adjusters that plug into the top-tube cable guides:

Thanks, just what I was looking for. I like the idea of putting the cables on top, and keeping them out of the way of the dirt.
