Let me first state I'm a year or so from competing (just recovering from 3rd knee surgery and desperately looking to get back into shape.)
My biking experience was mostly MB recreational and had the misfortune of having my bike stolen preivous to summer. Insurance has partialy come through but required the name of a shop and deposit placed while I was away. The shop she choose (very limited in area) has a respectable name however only carry Giant and Specialized. Upon my return I did the quick research and found that a cyclocross would be the best bike to choose from. I can't count how many articles I've read that stated if they could only have one bike......you get the idea.
Anyways here's the issue. I narrowed it down to the 2011 Giant TCX 1. Remember I'm limited to insurance payout and not wanting to spend a ton of my personal cash....yet.
Went in for a sizing yesterday and all things being equal, I'm an odd body size. Experienced staff was confused. Basically I'm right down the middle of a small and medium. Concensus was to put me into a small because we would have to lower the seat height so much for a proper fit on the medium that I would be very level with front bars.
Anyways, should I be worried. Between the two (remember they are my only two choices of brands from this shop that the cheque has been cut to) are either Giant or Specilized and I need to keep it around the 1500-1800 price.
(I already have a next to new set of Mavic Aksiums roads generously donated to me from a friend whose a very big road racer. He laughed at me about the cyclocross and wanted to help.)
Any comments on the bike are appreciated and sorry for the length of the first post. Future ones won't be so drawn out. Still soaking in it all.
