SRAM medium cage RD and chain slap???

I'm thinking about putting on a longer cage RD on my cross bike so I can run a larger cassette.

Does anyone here have much of an issue with chain slap when riding light single track or on a rough course? I'm trying to decide between an Apex medium RD or a Type 2 X7 RD. Most likely going with the mountain RD so that I have the option of running 1x10 at some point, but always good to get a few opinions.

Thanks.

Keep in mind that if you have a single ring up front, your rear der needs less capacity, and that is typically rated very conservatively. So I'd go with the Apex medium-cage.

Also, shorten the chain as much as possible and keep it in the big ring while in the chunky stuff. Maybe add an extra stick-on chainstay protector for peace of mind.
