fat tires with road calipers, no clearance

even with narrow tires your wheels would clog and you would stop

no, the issue is the mud and crap builds up quickly under the brake arch and brings the bike to a halt. You need big tires and they won't fit on that bike. It's a road bike with a few tweaks, but it would be silly to try and race cross on it. Cross is a real equipment wrecker sport, no need to get some nice bike like that out on the pitch.

Who the heck needs a special bike to bomb down dirt roads? Any old road bike is fine for that stuff. They come up with the goofiest crap to market to people.

And for $6,000 you could buy a much better cross bike and have money left to buy a road bike, if that's the goal.
