Does TREK Pull the Plug Too?

I can't think of another bike company that has so profited from their involvement with a singlular cyclist(TREK = Lance Armstrong). Back in the late 90's TREK was hardly thought of as a producer of top level race bikes even though their OCLV frame was by all accounts a solid frame. Trek's mecurial rise parallels Lance's TdF wins and clearly they hitched their wagon to the Armstrong pony. So much so, they essentially shut down the LeMond line because Greg wouldn't stop questioning Lance's involvment with Ferrari. So what now?

I believe that Armstrong has a financial stake in Trek, Bontrager and Sram, and so disentangling themselves from Armstrong will be a somewhat more complicated matter than that with Nike.

“Trek is disappointed by the findings and conclusions in the USADA report regarding Lance Armstrong. Given the determinations of the report, Trek today is terminating our longterm relationship with Lance Armstrong.
    That leaves Oakley

So today's count of sponsors that have ditched Armstrong: Nike, Michelob, Radio Shack, Trek.

EDIT: Add honey stinger to the list.

John Burke on Greg LeMond in 2008, hmmmm

"For years, Trek has tried our best to make this relationship work. And for years, Greg LeMond has done and said things that have damaged the LeMond brand and the Trek brand as a whole," said Burke. "His actions are inconsistent with our values - values we believe in and live everyday. And after years of trying to make it work, we are done. It's time to sever this relationship and allow Trek to do what it does best - build the world's greatest bicycles and provide our customers with a great product and exceptional customer service."--John Burke, President Trek Bicycles

In the subsequent media conference call, Burke said that repeated allegations against 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong were detrimental to both the LeMond and Trek brands, and limited the potential growth of the LeMond brand. He also stated that LeMond accounts for approximately $15 million (U.S.) out of annual revenues of $700 million (U.S.).

I wonder what the yearly income from all those sponsers was. It had to be a big number.

Hope Lance banked a bunch of those millions instead of blowing them jetsetting around the world, eating and drinking and screwing pop stars and actresses. Got a feeling his lifestyle is about to change a bit.
