Why not use a singleator with vertical drops?

Why couldn't i convert my bike with vertical drops to a fixed gear by installing a surly singleator chain tensioner?

As long as you go forward it is ok, when you back pedal the chain will become taught on the botton(where the singulator is) and slack on the top. Loose chain bad

As Zapp said, when you slow, your chain on top will go slack. Then it will jump off. Maybe it will get jammed between the ring and the crank? Maybe it will get jammed between the cog and the spokes or the dropouts? Oh, boy, won't that be fun!!! Can you say faceplant? Sure you can!
