    American Flyers on Versus

After being thoroughly enraptured by Breaking Away, American Flyers several years later was a supreme disappointment. How could the same guy who produced the first one get it so wrong with the second attempt? I remember sitting in a theater in LA and cringing as I watched this film...and when it ended walking out in a daze wondering what the heck just happened? Breaking Away got academy award nominations and Breaking Away never got beyond "limited release" status. But I digress.....

American Flyers is going to be shown on Versus tonight at 8pm Eastern and then repeated at midnight. At least there are some Colorado scenes and some Specialized bikes.

Now that you're over the initial disappointment it should be good for a few laughs, anyway. Oh yeah, and it features some "Murray" Serottas, too.

The sequels usually suck big time. I saw Breaking Away and thought it was overrated. I don't recall seeing American Flyers but if you say it sucks I believe you.

I'll dvr it. Although it is a hokey movie, it is a bicycling movie. I'll let the gf watch, see how she likes it.

the best part of AF is when the credits are over at the end. what a horrible movie, wheelsucker. actually, it did have Chris Issak in the soundtrack, so there is that...

the only reason i'd be interested in her would be to hang out with her dad, man.

Who can forget Alexandra Paul in her pre-Baywatch days? Brief nude scene with Costner's brother.

This flick came out when I was a high school kid. I remember Winning magazine featuring multiple stories about the filming. It's a bit of a dud but in the context of American cycling movies, it's gotta be our Silver medalist.

That's funny. When I lived in Venice CA I had an "afterwork" training loop up into the Pacific Palisades that had a short but brutal climb. The route went right by Tommy Chong's house and more than once I stopped to shoot the bull with him. Very funny guy and very nice.

And yes, American Flyers was an embarassment.

Once you get it up, keep it up! Yeah, Alexandra Paul she's easy on the eyes. The movie is not all bad though. Its got a decent core story about sibling relationships. If they would have concentrated more on that instead of the cornball stuff then it wouldn't have been so bad. The kicker was Bella with that huge rasputin beard. What were they thinking??? The guy was built like a tank
