    Article: WSJ - The Wave

Jason Gay: Hey Riders, Runners: Do You Wave? - WSJ.com

I love it. FYI I'm mostly a "Nod" guy but I occasionally wave.

I nod sometimes and usually the nod frequency goes up the fewer people I encounter on a ride. But if I'm riding on a very busy lakefront bike path in Chicago on a nice summer day there might be hundreds of runners and bikers on that same path in a 23 mile span. I'm always so busy concentrating on avoiding dangerous situations like careless pedestrians that walk on to a busy bike path without looking in either direction that waving and nodding are the last of my priorities.
