Bibstraps - over or under your base layer?

Never thought about it until today. What's correct?
You'd be better off with a netbook, they do everything better.

Baselayer over bib straps. Having a base layer tucked into my shorts feels wrong and looks dorky.

    Over...

...so I can clip my phone, pager, pens, pocket protector to the straps and just unzip my jersey some to access an item

You need to go over unless you want to completely strip down to go to the bathroom.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but those two sound mutually exclusive. I put my bib straps over my base layer so the base layer WILL be tucked into my shorts, by default so to speak, rather than peeking out from under my jersey.

Same, I put base layer under the straps.

^^^Makes no sense. How can you wear your bib straps over a base layer and not tuck the base layer in?

OP: straps over the base layer. Have never seen it done any other way.

Bib straps go over my base layer, but under jersey, jacket, vest, or backpack.

I like my base layer on the bottom to avoid the straps chafing my shoulders and nipples. Some bibs are worse than others at this -- a couple pairs, I have to ride with a sleeveless base layer all the time, even in the heat of the summer, or I'm not feeling well. Also, if the base layer is right against skin, it will wick moisture better.

Pros do the bibstraps over their base layers. YMMV

What I wrote made no sense. I've gone back and edited. I meant to say I keep my base layer over my bib straps.

Only time I wear a base layer is for cold weather, so they're usually fairly substantial. I don't like the feeling of the fabric bunching up under my bib shorts.

Base layer under. If it's bunching under your bibs, buy a smaller baselayer!

If your base layer bunches, then you got one or 2 sizes too large.

Base layer tight fit and under straps

I dont use a base layer. Never have. So, I dont know and it wont matter in my case.
A while back I decided to ride a bike as often as possible. These are my observations from the saddle, one pedal stroke at a time, on my way to being a better cyclist.

Base layer under...especially important if you have sensitive nipples. Oops, was that too much information?

    Agreed.
Especially during winter the idea of having to get completely naked if you get caught out would tell me that bib straps over the base layer is the way to go.

If it's over your bibs, it's no longer a base layer.

Sure it is, at least everywhere but where it's blocked by the straps.

I think you should just tuck in the front and leave the back hanging out.

Straps go over, to keep the base layer tucked in.

Buying parts to hang on your bike is always easier than getting fit.

Base layer tucked into bib shorts is on the same level of dorkiness of tucking your t-shirt into your underwear. NERRRRDS!
