Bike saddle dirty after 2 days. What to do?

    Hi,

I just bought an orange Origin8 Aero saddle on ebay. It's made out of gelfoam. I put it on 2 days ago and it's already very dirty after bicycling with it while raining. It has black marks all over it.

When I use a cloth with water, I see a blue color on the cloth (probably from pants).

How can I clean a gelfoam bike saddle safely without damaging the materail or color?

    Thank you

two things: most bike saddles are black for a reason and orange saddles are impossible to keep clean. Contact | Origin8
    okay that's three. Good luck.

Thank you. I do use a bag on it, but it still gets dirty after riding because of all the rain and mud from the rear wheel.

Anyone know how to clean it with regular stuff without damaging materail and preserve color?

sounds like it's not 'dirt' but dye from whatever pants you're wearing...that's probably not coming off.

try the usual household cleaners...dish soap, ammonia, windex, Simple Green, etc. and some elbow grease. don't use abrasive types tho...

According to the late Billy Mays, OxiClean works like magic.

Also, you should use listen to Vince, and use a ShamWow to apply it.

My bike came with a white saddle and, yes, after the second ride it was stained by my cycling knickers in the rain. I accepted that as a sign showing that the bike is lovingly used. Four years later the saddle looks much the same - slightly worn from use.
Life is short... enjoy the ride.

As Bradkay says, let the saddle discolor and get worn. It's a sign that you're actually riding the thing, not just admiring it from afar.

In the musical instrument world, we call these things 'Mojo'. It's what give them character and makes them uniquely yours!

Embrace your stains and go ride your bike

I had the same experience. The one I bought was called the Sham. Minus the Wow.

Some people really need to grow up. Doesn't mean not to clean it the best you can but you are the one who chose to get an orange saddle; deal with it. Chalk it up as a learning experience and ride your bike.

ShamWow and OxiClean is not available in my country.

How about a microfiber cloth? What type of regular cleaning products should I use (stuff you can find in any store) ?

I contacted Origin8 but no answer so far.

since you didn't like my first suggestion, try a belt sander and some 80-grit.

Shamwow and oxiclean are both ridiculous ripoffs.

It's an $18 saddle. If you like the fit, get a black one.

Oxy works well, for what it works on. Which is not everything (not great with grease for example). It releases sodium peroxide as the active agent, so relatively mild and eco friendly as these things go.

A larger box of powder, not all that costly for how long it lasts, can be mixed from mild to paste strength.
