Continental Grand Prix 4 Season Vs Schwalbe Ultremo DD

I've been riding Continental Grand Prix 4 Season tires for the past couple of years. I like the tires and think the weight / performance and puncture resistance is very good. I also trust them in high speed cornering.

I have been seeing more people lately on the Schwalbe Ultremo DD and that looks to be Schwalbe's competitor to the GP 4 Seasons.

Is there anyone that made the move to Schwalbe? I'd be interested in feedback either positive or negative.

I ride 150 miles / week in Northern CA and the roads often have a lot of debris / crap on them. Also I will use in dry & wet conditions.

Continental Grand Prix 4 Season Vs Schwalbe Ultremo DD

The GP 4season has been my favorite winter tire. It shows emphasis on puncture resistance at the expense of slightly less comfort but I will gladly pay the price.
The ZX clincher, not the DD, was the tire I wanted to try next but have heard of repeated issues with the sidewall threads unraveling so I'm waiting until the dust settles down.

I don't know about the Schwalbe Ultremo DD but can verify the Ultremo R1s and ZXs DO have a problem shedding sidewall threads. Nor did they stand up well to glass and sharp aggregate.

However, the Ultremo DD is supposed to be a more durable tire.

I have a couple of thousand miles on Ultremo DDs. Zero problems so far, and they are the best tires I've ever had. I have the 25s and run the back at 95lbs and front at 90lbs.
Plush with great grip in the turns and at this point they show few signs of wear. Plus- They are a lot better in the rain than I had expected.

The puncture belt on the DD is amazing. Reno roads are covered in glass, but the DD's are like the Honey Badger. The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger (original narration by Randall) - YouTube

Great, I just bought a pair of Ultremo ZX 28c. Hopefully I will have better luck.

Ditto. I replaced my Kojaks with these and after a few rides had a nasty double slice right in the edge of the "tread" where it folds over to the sidewall. I'm thinking I caught a nasty piece of something that was embedded in the macadam given the length of the slice. I'll probably replace them with the DDs and ask for a refund or partial credit. There's just too much of this going on with the tire for it to be coincidence.

EDIT- How big of a difference will it be going from 28c to 25c on a Cannondale Bad Boy?

Agree with Blackbeard. Schwalbe Duranos. I switched from gator skins. Will never go back.

There are lots of fans for both, but who has tried both so we can have a real world comparison?

Went ahead and ordered the Ultremo DDs in 25c. I'll come back with an update once I receive them.

Did 12 miles on these today. The switch from 28c to 25c was very noticeably in ride quality as far as bumps, but the 25s are definitely "twitchier". I started out riding them at 116 PSI as I am 225 pounds, so that could have contributed to the road being transferred more than usual. I'll tweak the pressure as I break the tires in. Handling was pretty tight through the turns and banks, didn't really notice much in the way of wheel slippage.

Overall they road well and came home with not even a minute gash. So far, so good.
