    fighter pilot helmet?

i was at one of the LBS's today and noticed they have this helmet. looked just like a fighter pilot helmet. with the visor and everything. like not any other bike helmet ive ever seen. was about $300. shell was all carbon. not that im looking to get it or anything just wondering what kind of riding it was for. yeah i failed to ask while i was there.

Time trial. There's various designs, with the two major classifications being long and short tail - the latter somewhat growing in popularity as it would hold decent aerodynamic properties when the rider inevitably tilts their head down. You basically wouldn't want them as a regular rider for their lack of ventilation.

Included visors from what I understand are more recent. I remember a DIY visor tutorial not to long ago as many people were without them.

thats what i thought it was. even though i didnt know what a time trial helmet looked like, i was thinking "maybe its 'one of those' helmets"

thing is. all the TT helmets ive see have even a little bit of a protrusion at the rear. this one was completely round. just like a fighter pilot's lid. so that confused me.

oh well, now i know. thanks for clearing that up for me. it would have eaten me up inside since i searched up and down and couldnt find anything close to it.

A few companies make a round helmet like that with a visor. They tend to be more popular on the track than the road.

That looks like a skateboard-style half-cut helmet that costs like $15, with the visor added on.

Personally I don't think a visor is worth $310 more..

It's not the visor itself that brings the cost up, but what's printed on it :G-u-c-c-i.
Personally, I won't look at another helmet from now on unless it says Louis Vuitton on it.
Or if it's the helmet Luke Skywalker wore in a galaxy far far away.

Oh yeah? Wait until Rolex starts making helmets.

    I'll wait for the replicas.
I ride mostly in the honorable pursuit of being kissed on both cheeks at the same time by one blond and one brunette. But not redheads, they scare me.

    890. Could buy a bike for that. Incidentally, did a charity cycle a few months back where one rider completed the 50k using a builder's hard hat as a helmet.

    Was it something like this?

If so...that's a helmet for track racing on a velodrome and not really a TT helmet.

Team Sky was using them for time trials, which I thought was a tad odd. When they were using them, I thought about looking at something like this or the track helmet for the purpose of winter riding, mostly for the visor and lack of vents. Hot as hell during the summer, but I sometimes I use my TT helmet to keep warm and fight the wind.

stupid fixie hipsters...oh wait maybe I got that wrong.
A while back I decided to ride a bike as often as possible. These are my observations from the saddle, one pedal stroke at a time, on my way to being a better cyclist.
