I plan on doing solo rides 10 - 30 miles past town limits - cow country, no gas stations, etc. and w/ limited cell phone. Carry a chain tool or do road bike chains not break? Also, recommended mini tool w/ or w/out chain tool. I only have a small seat bag (Spec EMT), the rest goes in my jersey. Aslo I have an old chain tool back from early 90's, will it work on a new ultegra ten speed chain?

I carry a mini-tool (Topeak Alien, maybe??) with a chain tool attached and have fixed 6-8 chains in the 5 years I've been riding. None of them were mine. - TF
What an awesome tool. Super light aluminum with a chain tool attatched. It was so light you never noticed it was in your jersey/bag. A bit fragile but heck.... I think I've busted a chain twice in 15 years. It's a great little insurance policy though and beats the heck out of carrying those 'kitchen sink' tool kits that are:
1)bulky. Takes up too much valuable space in your bag or jersey
2)heavy as a brick
3) excessive. Who needs 47 wrench options on a 30 or 50 mile ride
3) expensive.
I lost my last Ritchey CPR tool... anyone know who still sells these?
I bought something similar last year after I saw the Ritchey.
a friend had. Think I found it at Nashbar. It has a chain tool, 5mm hex and reg scredriver on opposite end of the hex. Flat and light weight with Alum frame. I keep it in a pouch in my jersey pocket with ID, cash, and a Wipperman Conex link. If I break a chain (which I did on a short ride last year, walked home), I'll just pop out the remainder of the broken link, insert the conex, and be on the road again. Also, before I bought it, I had a friend break his chain at the farthest point out on a 50 mile Saturday ride, he had to wait til his wife could ride home and bring a car..... that's when I decided I wasn't going to let that happen to me.
