    Now that's a headwind

100km/h wind force Cape Town to cancel cycle tour

I'm not sure that would have even been fun as a tailwind.

Once two friends and I rode from Savannah to Savannah Beach into such nasty headwinds that it took us three hours to ride those eighteen miles - and those headwinds were only half the strength of what these folks would have been dealing with. Good call to cancel the ride.
Life is short... enjoy the ride.

Here in the Midwest, late winter / early spring is headwind season. We had gusts of 45 MPH+ and a steady 30 mph wind on a ride I did last week. It was f$%&ing ridiculous as a headwind and downright dangerous as a cross wind. On one small climb I was absolutely redlining in a 39x25 at 11 mph. The next day, trees were down all over the neighborhood.
