    Specilized Tarnac Expert Help!

    Hello Everybody!
Im new here and I hope can find help. I pick a used Tarmac Expert in a flea market last weekend foe a decent price. don't know the year but base on my research is maybe 2007-08. Is in great shape. only small paint chip about 1/8. The only thing is no wedge style seatpost.
Need Advice about part # Or aftermarket product. I emailed Specialized but no answer yet.
    Thanks in advance

Your best bet would be to take the bike into a Specialized dealer and have them determine exactly what seatpost you need. You'll pay an extra 20% premium to buy the part from a bike shop, but at least you'll get the correct part.

I'm pretty sure these took a round 27.2mm pave carbon seat post with zertz insets. Any 27.2mm seat post will do BUT you need to find the funky shaped seat clamp that goes over the ovalized seat tube and secures the round seatpost.

     you can see the setup.

might be hard to find just the clamp but hopefully Specialized can help. Good luck.

can you sell it at the next flea market? or keep an eye out on ebay craigslist classifieds e.t.c. for a smashed up one. How much would you pay for the part?

You paid way too much for an 11yro bike you may never be able to ride. It's not worth $500 even if you had the seat and seatpost.

Onlys option at this point is find a sucker to buy it from you. Or scour the internet hoping to find the clamp on some classified ad somewhere someday.
Start calling specialized dealers in the hopes some mechanic has one laying around the shop.

There was another recent thread about this part, it's going to be hard for you to find:
    Missing seatpost clamp?

I'm surprised some 3rd party vendor like Wheels Mfg didn't decide to make an aftermarket one after Specialized stopped having any in stock.

Be patient, and also see if some of these similar-looking alternatives can be jury-rigged to work perhaps. If you can get the part, you'll like the bike just fine.

Buying a bike at a flea market with missing seatpost... you could be dealing with karma, though.

    OP,
Your best recourse is to contact as many Specialized bike shops as you can throughout your area and the country, request an email address and email the picture of your bike seat tube.

This will take some sleuthing, but I am sure through dogged trial and error you will find that seat post top cap that Specialized sadly no longer makes. No doubt there is a bike shop out there that has one in the back room.

    Good luck

well I had a bit of free time this morning and I contacted the Specialized parts manager here in Japan and they have one in their dead stock inventory bins. Cost is about 40$ plus shipping but we have a big group of public holidays coming next week, you won't be able to get it in a hurry. let me know if you want me to grab it for you. cheers

OP has disappeared. I'll give it another week 8/21 and then first come first served.

If OP is taken care of, I'll take it, although alexdi (View Profile: alexdi - Road Bike, Cycling Forums) may need it more.

sounds like Canada is the better, closer option. BUT for future reference there are some here in Japan.

Assuming Caesar2k is taken care of by Canada, I think alexdi really needs one for an old S-Works Tarmac. If there are multiple available in Japan I'll take one, would be happy to have a spare for my Allez.

My dude, if there's a Specialized dealer that not only has this ten year old small part around, but actually knows where it is and can access it, I'd be pretty shocked.

There's a lot of small parts a bike shop has to keep track of that they actually sell regularly. A random part that 99% of people who need it already have and would never think to buy a spare is probably going to be the victim of cleaning well inside ten years. And if it hasn't become the victim of cleaning, then I doubt the bike shop's ability to find it.
