Topeak Race Rocket Question
I am considering getting a Topeak RaceRocket HPX Pump for a friend's bike. Here is a link to the pump on Topeak's website:
Topeak® Cycling Accessories
My question concerns the mounting bracket. They call this a "centerline" bracket. It appears that it is intended to mount on water bottle bosses. However, it appears that the "centerline" design precludes mounting a bottle cage to the same set of bosses. Therefore, using this mount would cost you a water bottle. Is it possible to mount this pump so that it is beside the bottle cage like the mount for the Lezyne Road Drive I have on my bike? If no, is there a different mounting bracket available? I see no reference to such a mount on Topeak's site.
My friend is less than mechanically inclined. I am drawn to the Topeak because the hose is integrated in such a way that it seems less complicated to use. I love the Road Drive, but (with its separate hose) think it might be a bit too fussy for this person.
Thank you in advance for your input on this.

This doesn't really answer your question, but...that hose really doesn't seem any less complicated to me than what's on the Road Drive (unless he is running Shrader.) The pump will get trashed pretty fast on the frame anyway so . . . buy the Topeak and tell him to put it in his jersey or . . . best option - buy him a Road Drive. As you know, it is such a nice pump. (Keep that in the jersey too!)
I agree that it looks like it's going to take up the whole mount by itself.

Just go for the standard RaceRocket. It comes with a side mount bracket, has the same smarthead integrated hose as the HPX but will also fit in a jersey pocket.

"Standard" RaceRocket
Excellent suggestion, thanks. The RaceRocket HP (link below) has a shorter barrel. Is this model truly capable of getting tires up to 100psi? Topeak says that the pump can get up to 160psi. Call me cynical, but I always view manufactures claims with some skepticism.

I'm sure it can with enough strokes and effort! I only use mine on the road as a backup to CO2 and to part inflate tubes after a puncture. I use a track pump to inflate my tires at home. I carry the RaceRocket in my jersey when I am on the race bike (no bags or pumps on frame), but on my winter bike I have a pocket rocket masterblaster and it doesn't suffer from being frame mounted.

I just keep my pumps in my jersey pockets. Fat ol' Blackburn pump for the mtb, and a Topeak Micro Rocket for the road bike. I've never had to use it to inflate a road tire, but my friend has the same pump and he's successfully used it before.
Man up, dumb down, and do one gear.

I have both the Race Rocket and RR HP. I can get 100psi with the standard RR. The HP has a smaller diameter piston so is takes more strokes but is easier to get to 100 psi. It's what my wife uses. Both have mounts that go under a normal bottle cage with no issues. I prefer either of these pumps to a Lezyne Road Drive that I have because of their superior hose and chucks.
