5 Cyclists Killed, 40 Year Sentence

I looked in The Lounge and did not see mention of this. I do recall it was a topic somewhere around here when it happened. Hopefully, I am not duplicating.

40 years for the rather hefty man who killed 5 bicyclists.

By the looks of him, a prison hunger strike appears doubtful.

And lengthy if it did indeed take place.

Here's an entry at Bicycling which includes a victim's daughter addressing the courtroom. The end is brutal.

Watched this case from the beginning--and was pleased to see the verdict that was rendered.

Other cases have not shown a similar concern with the welfare of cyclists, but perhaps this one was so egregious that the court had to act.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

One of our own Loungers wife (Don4) often rode with them, I am not sure whether she was with them that night, I forget. She actually got hit a few months later I believe.

edit: She was NOT with them that night (I asked, he is a GOOD friend). I do remember that night, as soon as I heard I tried to contact him.

Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas are pretty bike friendly.

It sucks that a family will be without a father for 40 years, but it sucks even worse that he was brazen enough to take 5 lives. Justice has been served.
I lost my phone number. Can I have yours?
