Am I the only one who HATES Corona beer?

Out for Mexican food with some friends last night, and everybody but me ordered Corona. I love beer, and some of my favorites are Mexican: Negra Modelo, Dos Equis, Pacifico. But I've always thought (verified by a taste test last night) that Corona was just nasty, with a skunky aftertaste--the only beer I've ever had that deserved "skunky."
Is it just me, or are they all sheep responding to the ads?

I'm afraid its just you. An ice cold Corona with a lime is one of life's little pleasures.

I don't think I've ever had a Corona -- looks to pale for my tastes.

No you're not, I'd rather drink Amstel Light. Blech indeed.

Mexico makes some very good beers...Bohemia comes to mind.

Corona, otoh, is absolutely vile. The skunky odor/taste is due primarily to the clear bottles, as they do not inhibit photo-oxidation as well as amber glass.

There was a false rumor awhile back that Corona had detectable quantities of urine in it...altho it wasn't true, it tastes nasty enough to support the legend.

beer that needs lime to be palatable is liquid suckage.

You sir are a man of discerning taste. Corona is marketing hype only. Absolutely terrible beer. Skunky spoiled crap to be exact. I suspect they import it in an open topped dumptruck to get the flavor aroma and aftertaste so consistly horrible.

I haven't confirmed it but stories of Corona down in Mexico in dark brown bottles suggest it can be good beer for the locals.

Bohemia, Negra Modelo, Dos Equis Amber, and Carte Blanche (a stretch) make my list of really good Mexican beers. Tecate works fine when served out of an ice chest and enjoyed in the hot sun.

Corona bleeeearg blaaaarf yuck. Lime or ice or salt or any other bastard garnishes applied to an open beer suck too. If the beer needs its flavor drowned out order a better beer.

It's hype...tastes like water. Maybe thats why people drink it with a slice of lime.

I'd rather have a warm flat caffeine free diet Moxie than a Corona.

    corona - yech

Tastes like slightly flavoured water. Horrible stuff. Right down there with Coors, or Molson Canadian.

Yes it does..........Mexican donkey urine. That's what the stuff is.

Never had a Corona, and never want one. I'd rather have a Dos Equis.

And I completely agree about beer that needs anything served with it to make it drinkable? What the hell do you need a lime for anyway?

I'd just like to pile on to the Corona hating. I had a neighbor who drank Corona exclusively. I'm not one to turn down free beer, but I began to take my own beer to his house whenever we got together.

The way I heard the explanation goes like this:

Corona was transported in open top trucks to the bars. Many roads in Mexico are still dirt roads and the cans and bottles would get dirty during transport. The locals would grab whatever was on the bar to wipe the top of the can before they opened it. Mexico + bar + margaritas = plentiful limes. A marketing guy saw this and a sales campaign was born.

I really think that most Mexican beers are pretty lame. None with much body to them. If I order a Mexican beer, it tends to be Negra Modelo, sometimes Pacifico.

My last stay in Mexico I had a beer called "Indio" which I thought was probably the best Mexican beer I'd ever had.

Corona is completely without character. I'll drink XX or NM or sometimes even Tecate, but if I'm down to Corona I might as just as well drink PBR.

Mi gusta la cerveza de Negro Modelo. If all you have is Corona, it’s sure a hell of a lot better than goatpiss Buttweiper.

You are not alone. Oxtox described Corona to a tee.

I think it is just a fad.

Its been the #1 import for the last 10 years.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes, but to call Corona's success a fad is kinda odd.

Do you think the popularity of Budweiser is a fad?

I'm always surprised when I remember there's any beer other than Guinness.
