As of 0645 UTC August 30, Typhoon Talas is located within 30 nautical miles of 25.8°N 139.8°E, about 280 km (170 mi) west-southwest of Chichi-jima, Japan and about 685 nmi (1,269 km; 788 mi) south of Tokyo, Japan. Maximum sustained winds are 65 knots (120 km/h; 75 mph), gusting to 95 knots (176 km/h; 109 mph). Minimum central pressure is 965 mbar (hPa; 28.50 InHg), and the system is moving north-northwest at 6 knots (11 km/h; 6.9 mph).
Talas is a large storm. It is anticipated to gradually drift north and continue intensifying. The area of 30 kt winds or more ranges upto 650 km (400 mi) from the center to the east side and 560 km (350 mi) from the center to the west side. The area of 50 kt winds or more ranges up to 190 km (120 mi) from the center.
