    dress shirt collars turning orange?

I'm lost. I've been buying colored polos and button-down dress shirts for work, and I'm ruining them all.

The white ones turn colors (yellow, gray) on the collar. The blue/gray/etc ones turn orange, and the lighter colored ones turn white. Some of my blue button-downs actually don't get ruined, but it's only that color.

Is there a way to wash this out or prevent it from happening in the first place? As far as google knows, it's sweat that causes it. The strange thing is that it happens closer to the tips of the collar (near the actual buttons), where the shirt is actually unbuttoned and not constantly against my neck. Granted, it does eventually happen around the whole collar.

wtf do I do? I can't just stop sweating..

Are you washing with bleach? Do you have hard water? Washing with lye soap?

No sunblock, no bleach, no hard water, no lye, no spray tanning (hah).

    I use an unscented/colorless detergent.

Wear a swank turtle neck under your shirt to protect the collar. (Or maybe just an undershirt)

Do you wear cologne/aftershave? Do you use any spray starch that might be reacting with your gushing man-sweat?

Just start wearing plaid shirts. Any color changes would go unnoticed.

you are sorting the colors right?

    load 1: white
    load 2: blues/greens/greys
    load 3: red/yellow/orange
    load 4: black/navy(use dark detergent)
    load 5: towels
    load 6: sheets

this works in my household, wife + 2 kids, 2 dogs, 3 cats.

No, I don't sort my clothes, but none of them bleed. Whites go in with blacks/darks/lights/etc. I don't own any orange or yellow shirts (maybe that's my problem?).

It's not iron in our water -- we actually tested that.

I'm having trouble believing I have a pH imbalance (I've had recent blood work and tests), but I'll give that a shot. I do eat more acidic foods, but also balance with a lot of veggies and neutral foods. Maybe I'm just constantly dehydrated, making the problem slightly worse...

I might just be stuck with the oxyclean fix. Not sure that will help, as it looks like a permanent fabric color change.

Dude. Whatever. Just get some of that stain lifter. It'll be gone in a wash or two.
    I'm awesome.

Take em' to the cleaners. I don't wash any of my collared shirts at home any more. I found a place near me that will clean and press cheap and they look 2x better than if I ironed them.

Obviously all you have to do is put a dab of paint of whatever color shirt/collar your're wearing all over your neck and chest.

Scents and/or aftershave can exacerbate the problem.

Every fourth or fifth wash, I gather my light colored shirts, fill up the sink with cold water and detergent, and manually scrub the collars and cuffs with a brush before sending them to the washing machine. Just a part of the maintenance. *shrug*

The spray-on stain remover works in a pinch, too, but I've found you also have to scrub that in with a soft brush.
