Earth was established as a Pagan planet

At least, the people closest to THE creation weren't painting god. Or, maybe god is a buffalo.

Wink Bring back that 'ol time religion

    Here is a deep question:
What would life be like if man didn't have to create god to explain things that they didn't understand?

    A) Peace on Earth
    B) Constant war and suffering and XXXXXX (wait a minute)
    C) No difference.
If your opinion differs from mine, ..........Too bad.

My vote is for C. Man seems to need to dominate and kill. That seems to be part of our nature. Perhaps not being able to say, "In God's name" might make a difference, but I suspect not.

Now, who was saying something about intelligent design?

Perhaps not peace on earth, but an improvement over what we have now I'd think.

Earth was established as a Pagan planet

i think there are some problems with that phrasing.

it seems man was always looking for a spirtual, supernatural side to his existence, whether it be from fire, earth or myth.

we know the first civilizations used myth (or religion) to develop law, share stories and teach.

not until the enlightenment did men begin to turn away from established religion, but it was still not encouraged.

Altruism does have a selfish component to it. Sometimes it benefits us in tangible ways, but it also makes us feel good. It feels good b/c we evolved as social animals who want to help others, and often benefit directly from doing so.

Love me some ancient cave drawings too. Fascinating stuff.

Altruism doesn't have anything to do with religion. Some people that believe in religion, have altruism. Most people that believe in religion are haters, been proven throughout history, over and over. I would venture to say that more people died due to religion than any other reason, except natural death.

The phrasing of the OP title indicates the Earth was "established". Saying that implies that someone or something established our planet and not that it happened on its own. Perhaps the OP had a subconscious bias by using that word instead of saying the Earth evolved as a pagan planet. My reply to that would be "how does a planet, no matter how evolved, decide what the tiny little creatures that live on the planet believe?"

and the words 'pagan,' 'heathen' or 'godless' do not really exist before gods were created.

IMO WW2 definitely was a religious war. YOMV.

Hitler said he was doing "God's will." Based on his autobiography, he wasn't faking his belief, either (though I understand there's at least one sanitized, heavily-edited version of Mein Kampf that scrubs all religious references.)

The moderates are guilty of supporting the extremists by not questioning what the leaders are up to. Plenty of moderates in this country are fine and dandy with our current uber-religious cabinet, unaware (or unconcerned) about the implications. "SO abortion becomes illegal? Great, no more baby killing!" That's as far as their concern goes.
