yeah its been a while, and never used to venture far out of the fixed forum. Seeing that fabulous skinsuit you were sporting prompted me to come back and check this out. Wish we had weather that allowed riding anything other than a trainer. Almost enough snow for the xc skis though.

Had a banana-seat Schwinn as a kid in Queens, NYC in the '70's, Centurion Le Mans "Racers" in the Early '80's, then dropped off a bit until I bought a Peugeot to commute to work in Copenhagen in the late '90's, then dropped off again until three years ago, when I bought a Spesh Allez and started riding again. Since the '70's?

Currently a mechanical engineering student, I work on campus doing building maintenance. Works out well as I like fixing things. I am also toyota trained in engine and transmission rebuilding, suspension repair and emissions work. I like welding and metal work, and am looking at learning to build wheels and frames. I work on the pit crew of an amateur race team and design/fabricate the suspension as well as drive for my schools hybrid race car. Always liked light nimble vehicles, so the road bike seemed so obvious once I got on one. I have never been into health or fitness so its been an interesting change trying to build myself up physically.
My name is Mark Stemmy and I have been a cyclist for about 30 years. When I was about 15 a friend of mine had a Bianchi road bike and bought some Campy components for it which piqued my interest in the bikes themselves. But the movie Breaking Away was what really got me hooked. It wasn't long before I was building up my own bike and then building my own wheels. I bought the rims, spokes and hubs (Campagnolo Nuevo Record) from the Wheelsmith in Palo Alto (their first tiny location) and still have the front wheel, all these years later.
I ended up working in a variety of shops over a ten year period and had the benefit of learning my craft from some excellent mechanics. I then got a "real job" in the high tech industry and worked for a major silicon manufacturer for 14 years. What I am doing with Optimized Cycling Solutions is combining the skill sets from both disciplines. As bicycles and their systems become more complex and costs continue to increase, there seems to be an increase in the number of clients that want to reduce the risk when their $10,000 bike is assembled or serviced. It is always my goal to make each bike or wheel as perfect as possible.
However, there is always so much to learn and web sites like this are an invaluable resource for both riders and those who are in the industry. Odds are if there is an obscure piece of data or a compatibility issue I often find my way to sites like this one, with a large community of knowledgeable enthusiasts and professionals (current or former). It’s also very rewarding to contribute and I look forward to doing so. In poking around here this seems to be a very strong forum and the key contributors should be commended. It is well administrated, has a lot of participation and does not appear to have a lot of combative behavior.
I’m not here to poach business or solicit strongly. As I say, I am starting my business and honestly I am not looking for a billion customers right now. In fact my business model is more client based. For the first year of operation I will not be taking on a large number of clients. I prefer to take on a relatively small number of riders so I can fully concentrate on their needs and provide a very high level of service.
If someone has a question about my services or the products I sell please email me. Otherwise just consider me another member of the community. And don’t be surprised to see me asking questions as well as answering them. One thing I love about our industry right now is that there is so much going on and so much to learn about.

Here we go. Her name is Janine, she is very new and fast.
The funny thing is I was not prepared for just how light this bike would be. My old ride is about 10lbs. more than this one and the difference caught me off guard on my first ride.

I joined to wish Plat good luck with his new shop.
I relate to that thread, seeing I started my pawn shop about 4 years ago.
Alot of what was written about Plat's shop reminded me of my first couple of years.
