    Farewell, Montague's Cactus Jack

My wife and I said good bye to our Bulldog, Monty last night. He succumbed to heart failure just two months shy of his 14th birthday. This will be the first time in over 25 years there has not been at least one dog as part of the family.

I am still numb and have not given myself time to really grieve. Perhaps once I drop him off for cremation this morning, and put his toys and bedding away, it will really hit me hard.

My wife and I never had biological children, and have concluded that our lot in life is to care for the creator's furry creatures as if they were our own flesh and blood.

Monty, may you bask under the shade tree with a smile on your face forever.

There is nothing like the love of a good dog.

I am sure Monty has found a good spot in the yard wherever he is.

Sorry to hear that R.G. That looks like the contented smile of a well loved Monty.

I am so sorry to hear that, Retro Grouch. Dogs give an unconditional love that keeps the human heart warm.

    RIP Monty.

Condolences on the loss of Monty. He looks like he was a very cool dog indeed.

Seam: Saw Bjork poop onstage back in the day. It blew my teenage mind.

Farewell old boy. Endless pork chops and belly scratches at that big dog park in the sky.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Monty bounced back from a bout of cancer in 2013, resulting in a front digit amputation and a series of radiation treatment. So I consider the extra time after that health scare to be a true blessing.

Sorry for your loss--these critters get under our skin and into our hearts...

We're still grieving our neighbor's standard poodle that I have been walking daily for almost 2 years...
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

I'm very sorry for your loss. My big dog passed away in November and my little dog in April. I too am lost. In my opinion dogs are God's finest creation.
