Studio work can be sooooooo boring. But it's still such a cool thing when you sort of stop and look around. You're really there. Enjoy it. Jealous a bit.

It was a good time
They're doing more tomorrow but I'm not gonna go. The bass is done and I don't want to drive all the way to hollywood again just to do backup vocals.
It was a super cool experience. Hopefully will get a chance to do it again soon.

Here's my bass, a beacon of light in the middle of the studio.

I've been on both sides of the glass if you will. Honestly I enjoyed the tech'ing more than the playing. I'd much rather just jam or play live.
That said, awesome that you enjoyed the experience. I really hope you do get to do it again. You learn so much stuff every time you go. It might not be a bad idea to sit in and watch anyhow. Pick up everything you can if you're so inclined. I'm the sort of guy that loves learning all I can though, so that is what would motivate me to do so.
At any rate, congrats on the accomplishment. Hope it turns out well.
I too have been on both sides of the glass, and studio playing can get boring. But I think when you know what it's like to tech you enjoy the playing a little. I guess my mind has more to think about while I'm playing since I know what is and will be going on later.
Seriously though, that's cool. In HS I played a lot of guitar and did several live gigs, never got in the studio. Always would have liked to record when I still had chops!
you shoulda gone back for teh vocal day. just to see the reactions of the tech guys. would they be bobbing their heads up and down and gettin into it? would it be genuine? would it be like that recording studio scene of dirk diggler singing?
classic, drum and bass in the same room. were you running direct? did you have your boogie in an iso room?
I brought the 400+ but the dude DI'd me. My first time his millionth, so I just went with what he said.

you can always choose not to use it but it is better to have it and not need it
I've red that the DI on the 400+ can be a little problematic (noisy). The other option would be to use the slave out or to mic it. All of the options would require lots of time of me screwing with the EQ on the amp itself. I figured that the engineer knew what he was doing and I'll just let him work his magic. He's a bass player himself, so I trust him not to wash me out or give me shi**y tone.
The thing I'm a *little* bummed about was that we did two straight "rock" songs and one mellow-ish song that jumps between heavily distorted guitar and mellow strumming guitar, so none of the three we did have much room for me to do much on the bass other than keep the low end there. We've only got three songs or so where I really have much room to move around and they weren't recorded. I'm not complaining, but it would have been fun to hear myself in a professional mix with some of my fun little licks.
I'm a pocket player and try to keep the bottom end filled up, so I'm pretty respectful of my space in the mix. They actually stopped looking for a rhythm guitar player after I got the songs down, which I took as a compliment
