    I would imagine they were abandoned whenever their province broke away from the USSR and that the windows were knocked out by vandals.

    Neat. Interesting part of recent history. There's not a lot of publicity for the period between WWII and the present, at least at the popular media level. Lots of documentaries about the Natzies, holocaust, etc, not much on the soviets.

    A little more than a hydrofoil but not quite an airplane. Strange niche for a vehicle.

    Although that first one you posted a pic of looks like its flying at high altitude (out of ground effect)....is that one actually an airplane?
