    Just bumped up my RAM...

...from 1 gig to 2. Everything's working faster--even this silly site. I had no idea how much my lowly 1 gb of RAM was letting me down.

The upgrade (which included both gigs of RAM, 'cause Macbook Pros need matched chips) cost me about $50 shipped.

What's amazing is that the amount of memory in your computers is less than the amount in a typical cell phone these days.

    Scary.

But yeah, the more memory the better.

Work laptop only has 2 gigs.
    Wife's desktop has 4 gigs.
My #2 personal computer has 8 gigs.
My big machine has 12 gigs of ram.

I kinda need the big heavy iron for the stuff I do.
my music is online at aliensporebomb dot com yes indeed.

Next step? You should upgrade your acoustic coupler.

Better title for this thread would've been

2gb these days is the minimum that most PC's need these days to run decently. 3 to 4 is the ideal.
Now if you really want a speed boost, get a solid state HD. I did that and the differences are astounding. Vista Ultimate startup went from over 2 minutes to about 14 seconds!
Everything else loads faster too, of course. Some programs are only marginally faster due to programmed delays.

2 minutes! My Vista Ultimate machine is ready to rock and roll in about 24 seconds, and I'm using a lowly Velociraptor instead of a ssd drive.

I too gave my aging laptop a small upgrade from 1 to 1.5 GB. It made a noticeable difference. Definitely worth the cost. I put it off for too long.
