To the Lurkers... Y'All Gotta Post Sometimes, Man.

Seriously. I'm barely here anymore, and I'm still one of the most frequent posters. That's hilarious/sad.

The Lounge is on life-support, yo. Unless you want it to be pushing up daisies, best get off yer butts.

    Just sayin'.

Meh. Part of it is the weather, Im guessing. For me, I need things that are lownje worthy and right now PO has cornered the market on the idiotic and ridiculous.

Yea well...when they do jack to maintain the site, and pump it full of useless crap no one wants...and let's be honest it is called RBR, and the review section hasn't got much love in years....what do the owners expect.

I spend more time at BikeForums.

+1 on the whole PO thing. There was a good 6 month run where it was very interesting to read, but then someone flipped the idjuct switch, and it's become exhausting and overwhelming more than anything. Teh Lownje has also become less and less interesting. I miss dudes like @bmxhacksaw and @oldendicotthighway .

I have become a lurker in a place that has lost all its glory. Must be a proud moment for the owners of this site or do they even really give two flying phucks.

I don't think it's fair to blame the site owners/admin. I see this type of thing in all of the hobby forums that I frequent. After a while topics get to be repetitive and members lose interest. The same thing is true of magazines, for me anyway.

    Some food for thought: https://theadminzone.com/threads/are...forums.144548/

Also, there's an immense amount of arcane knowledge on this site. Typically, a reasonable question has already been thoughtfully answered by the time most users can post a response.

    Yea it is...

Basically this place became a ghost town during the two or three spats where serial-forum spammers took over 24/7 for a week...mods could not keep up, weren't online enough (not enough of them, and the is a USA centric site and people need to sleep), or simply didn't have the privileges-and the admins were off on vacation or at a conference. It had been trending downward as the admins kept adding more and more unwanted bloat crap in that useless right-hand column that no one wanted or asked for....and generally making this site run like a bandwidth pig. Generally forum traffic is falling...but RBR becoming a ghost town is firmly on the site owners, between neglect and not listening to forum regulars who wanted to keep the place going.

Between admins indifferent to user wants/opinions...spammers rendering the forum inaccessible for a week at a time...and users meeting IRL and establishing an FB group, small wonder most all the regulars moved out.

    [QUOTE=Marc;5168200]Yea it is...

We'll have to agree to disagree, for the most part.

I'm less and less excited to visit the site because of the lack of interesting content posted by members. I'm not bothered in the least by the strip of ads on the side of the page and I must have been out of town during the "spam incident".

I find my continued inability to quote posts correctly and the clunky photo upload system to be annoying though. Maybe those are in some way responsible for the lack of content.

I've turned into a Lounge Lurker; nothing here really sparks my interest too much anymore. BITD this was the only forum I would visit on is site, but I've ventured into some of the others.

What little goes on here now is more in the line of normal conversation, rather than the stoopid, irreverent "pooped a leaf" content of days gone by. That's fine, but I like the old, stupid, stuff better as I get enough of grown up talk in my real life.

You know, you could poop a leaf, and post pics, of course, to maybe rekindle some of that ol' Lounge magic.

I think in general Internet forums are a dying breed. Our youth culture has become too interested in trendy things like Snapbook, FaceChat and Tweeter. They only have a minute to spare between ice mocha lattes, yoga Pilates enemas and streaming porn. Like industry behemoths Blockbuster and AOL the Lounge will be dead by the end of the year. Catch you on the flippity flip, yo.

I poop leaves all the time, but figure we've already done that topic. Plus I'm of the older generation that doesn't take the phone (or camera) into the potty with me.

Seems like fewer Lownje members any more. Another forum I frequent has suffered a similar fate. People say it's because of FB. I don't know because I've had a FB account for years but have yet to learn how to do anything useful with it.

Having learned that Trek indeed makes good bikes, but that steel is real, I have all the bikes I'm likely to need for the rest of my life, having also learned that I don't need a bike made of unobtainium, or lighter than air helium wheels, and that my Brooks B-17 adapts to the shape of my butt rather than vice versa, the Lownje remains one of my favorite aspects of NNC.

I have no idea why the activity level has decreased.
Ten years ago, this plus some yahoo group focused on local rides may have been the only ways a cyclist would communicate with like-minded cyclists.

I am not on Facebook and I hate it when I am forced to be part of a Google group for anything, but that may be how people are communicating.

Content is part of it. Last year, as I posted daily discussion posts for TdF, with a bit of preview, the views climbed from 200 for early days to over 800 views, within a couple days, on latter stages. That seems like high viewership.

I enjoyed doing that. I was reconnoitering the stages anyway, and I have no one else in my world who is even a little interested in following the tour. I don't know the other races as well, but others do - that would be one way to reel people in. Frankly, I would read posts covering the classics, since many could add in the charm, history, and mystery of these and other rides. -I prefer reading things here than navigating all the hype at the velonews type sites.

    the Lounge had its heyday...

interesting/weird people, interesting/weird topics, its own jerseys...

and then it all just sorta faded away.

migrated to PO and enjoyed the banter for awhile, but it's in its own demise...not much being said there except 'your side sucks'...

tried Bike Forums...found it to be an IQ-lowering experience with obnoxious mods. even the slightest sarcasm or snark is met with heavy-handed threats. eff that...

    Or set fire to himself?

Broken record here--but I think the indifference of the site owners to things like a gazillion destroyed photo links--especially for the Retro-Classic Forum where people worked hard to document--and their unwillingness to allow Tapatalk helped hasten the site's downhill slide.

I also do think it was a bit of a 'moment' thing--pre FB, early days of online forums, an interesting confluence of peeps (or maybe it was effluence?)....
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
