Hello! I am newbie on this forum, and first of all I would like to say that I am glad to be a member here.

Here is my favorite music I like to listen to during bycicle rides.

If you're into Eno and Bowie, albums I'd recommend you check out (note, I'm deliberately avoiding hip hop, metal and electronica, all of which I love, but anyway):

    90s:
    My Bloody Valentine: Loveless
    Ride: Going Blank Again
    Swervedriver: Mescal Head
Neutral Milk Hotel: In The Aeroplane Over the Sea
    Blur: Parklife
Dinosaur Jr: pretty much any album, maybe start with You're Living All Over Me, which is actually from the late 80s.
    Slint: Spiderlands
Pulp: Different Class, which may be the best album of the 90s.
Pavement: again, no bad albums. Start with Slanted and Enchanted.
    Radiohead: OK Computer
The Dismemberment Plan: Emergency and I
Spiritualized: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
The Flaming Lips: The Soft Bulletin
    Guided by Voice: Bee Thousand
Built To Spill: Keep it Like a Secret
    Magnetic Fields: 69 Love Songs

    '00s
Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but they have many, many great albums
Interpol: Turn on the Bright Lights
White Stripes: lots of good albums, start with White Blood Cells
    Arcade Fire: Funeral
Queens of the Stone Age (who are kind of metal): I like all of their albums
TV on the Radio: Return to Cookie Mountain
    Bloc Party: Silent Alarm
Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs: Fever to Tell, but lots of good stuff
    Spoon: all albums
The National: maybe start with Alligator
Panda Bear: Perfect Pitch (electronica but doesn't sound like it)
    The Strokes: Is This It
PJ Harvey: Stories from the City...
The Shins: most albums are good, start with "Chutes Too Narrow"
    Tegan and Sara: The Con
Sonic Youth's '00 resurgence was uniformly excellent, start with Murray Street
Drive By Truckers: country-ish? Southern Rock? anyway, lots of good albums.
Sleater Kinney: All Hands on the Bad One, but lots of good music.
    The already mentioned Sigur Ros

    10s:
Vampire Weekend: Modern Vampires of the City
The War on Drugs: Lost in a Dream
    Deerhunter: Halcyon Digest
    Sun Kil Moon: Benji
    M83: Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
    Real Estate: Days
    Tame Impala: Lonerism
    Beach House: Teen Dream
****ed Up: David Comes to Life
The Decembrists: The King is Dead
    Cloud Nothings: Attack on Memory
    Savages: Silence Yourself
Parquet Courts: lots of great albums, start with Light Up Gold
Car Seat Headrest: Teens of Denial

    ...alright, sick of typing.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Maybe slotting Steven Malkmus and Yo la Tengo in there whatever decade they're from. That PJ Harvey album deserves to be listened to start to finish.

Throw in Cat Power and .... anyway, I see how you got sick of typing. I could go on and on too.

I think that I've found the music channel that I'm looking for; BBC 6. Interesting and knowledgeable DJ's, playing music from over 50 years, with an immense library, AND no adverts! Even gives me a chance to brush up on my British English.

Thanks for all your suggestions, but I must say that most of you guys have terrible music taste...

OP, a word of advice: if you ask for suggestions, don't be a complete dick to people who respond.

One other suggestion: lock this ****.

My nephew gave me a CD by Tame Impala -- I really like it. Kind of reminded me of John Lennon, add in a bit of 60's psychedelia, but still new.
It's all fun and games until someone ends up in a cone.

Don't make me go all honey badger on your ass
