    Nina Simone Apperciation Thread

I searched for Nina Simone, because I remember her being talked about before on here, but I didn't find a specific thread dedicated to her amazingness.

    Aint got no class:

I want a little sugar in my bowl...

    And, of course....

Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to...

Eunice Kathleen Waymon is with Heath and Natasha.

We saw her once in concert, she wasn't happy with the audience and it showed.

She doesn't seem to be afraid to let people know what she's thinking

You owe it yourself to listen to Nina at Newport, particularly "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To."

(also check Alvin Shackman on guitar)

I also can't believe that no one has posted this yet:

And of course, another of her signature songs (courtesy of Rogers & Hart)

Roebuck better back off. I've been sweet talking Joeh for some time and I do not like it one little bit when some DSLR-toting fancy-pants tries to play in my sandbox. You do not want to start a cat-fight with me, child, because I will scratch your eyes out!

Then you better find your way into my Camry on the way to Santa Cruz. I've got 6 hours in the car with him. Each way.

She even makes techno (or whatever this is called) halfway listenable.

I still can't stand the bump CHA bump CHA bump CHA (which, it seems like all you have to do to make a "remix" is add that back track to a song in the correct time).

    That's very minimalist.

My daughters dig "Go Limp" off her Nina Simone Live (1964).

Turn me on is one of my favorite tunes of all time:

I like Norah Jones' version better.

Thank you Fredke: Great stuff. This year's Rolling Stone listed their "100 Greatest Singers of all Time" and yes, I know that such things can't be agreed upon/decided/determined and that RS isn't qualified to compose such a list but I like to humour them as they have had their moments. They voted Aretha Franklin as #1 which is a great choice BUT the only person I would replace her with is NINA. The woman is/was incredible, never fails to move me and could sing anything. I absolutely love her!

Don't give me credit. Joe started the thread. I just climbed on board and gave it a sprinkling of pixie dust.
