NNC: An encouter with a Honky Tonk in Vermont

I won't post many words, I'll let the photos do the talking. (I apologize in advance for the odd angles, I just held the camera up and snapped without looking). Teaser for now. More later.

Along some of my favorite roads

Past some of my favorite road side stands

    Into my near-by neighbor state

To meet a crusty old cyclist

And come home with a car load...

    Moar later...

I went into a roadhouse in Mississippi once.

A fight broke out while I was there. Never seen a guy get hit on the head with a beer bottle before
Whenever the legislators endeavour to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence - John Locke

(Sorry, these are just quick photos, not the best quality)

Along the way I drove along my favorite cycling route

Then further and further into the Vermont countryside

    To arrive at my destination

The owner greated me, showing the shop off

Even letting me into the places customers don't usually go

    "The derailleur drift"

and his sons custom frame, not yet for public sale.

    Finally, the bike.

    Thanks Chain

And finally, post first ride, cell phone photo. I absolutely love this bike.

EDIT: The reflectors come off as soon as I get rid of the platform pedals, which I hadn't ridden on in 12 years, and now I remember why. I didn't have time to put on the newly arrived SPD pedals or to take off the wheel reflectors, but at least no pie plate (Kona ships it separate, not already on the bike, and the shop owner said he would've taken it off anyway, since he hates them).

    Review to come later.

Thanks guys - shop owner agreed with unclefuzzy and is ordering one of his own!

Only question I've got: Silver or black bottle cages? I've got both, just not sure which I should run!

Also, when it goes back for its tune up (in a couple of months), I'll be swapping out to a shorter stem (at no charge). This one is 120mm and just a bit too long. Doesn't cause any discomfort but I'd like to be a little less stretched out when on the hoods. Something I couldn't really tell with the couple of mile ride I took at the shop.

What part of VT is that? I'm going to guess near White River Junction.

Rochester, so straight up 100 out of Killington. Not quite as far east as wrj.

Awesome area. I'll be driving up that way more often. We go to rutland and out to queeche pretty often and have since I was a kid.

Thanks Phil! Chain did a great job with both of the stickers and I'm proud to have Team Collin represented.

Silver cages. Either would look fine since the bike has a lot of black but...silver.

Rochester, VT - drove 4 from NY to 30 to 73 to 100 and into Rochester. Beautiful area up over Brandon pass. I only live about 20 minutes from Fairhaven, VT, so we go over there pretty often. One of our favorite restaurants is in Rutland.

    I paid $901 after tax for a 2009 + Tiagra Brifters.

    Silver it is

Having fun with the bike? Any more updates? I just bought one of these frames on ebay and wanted to see if it still worked for you.

I'm still in love with it. Have ridden it just about every day since I bought it - around the block, a few miles here, on the trainer for an hour... as long as I'm on it. Made a few adjustments to the seat position (moved the saddle forward) and I'll be swapping to a 100mm stem instead of the 120 thats on it (no charge from the bike shop I bought it from).

Also, went with the silver water bottle cage - glad I did. Looks great with the panel despite all the other black components.

Have fun with it! I rode it on some gravel trails that have dirt sections and loved how it handled. Felt confident and never really got sketchy. I can feel some flex while riding it, but its got a nice, lively ride and responds well out of the saddle. Climbing on it is easier than climbing on my aluminum slicked MTB frame. Can't get enough of it. I'll try to get more photos. Probably going to have to take a week or so off from riding because of other obligations but when I get out, I'll make sure to bring along the camera. I attached a photo - I think I posted it somewhere else. Reflectors are staying on per request of my wife, until I get a blinky for evening rides.

Thank you. Looks like a shop I'd like to visit. And I might.
