Just pulling an idea out of my @$$, but from the descriptions of the situation as well as the perp, I'd bet it was just some loon looking for somebody to shoot. Houston is just FILLED with angry people....

I saw the title of the post and thought the rivalry between 11 Speed and Factory Feel had finally gone too far.

Mustache hate maybe? Or he forgot to wave?

From the description the killer sounds like a gang banger on an MTB. Either the doctor had a meth habit or it was an initiation random bad luck shooting. In any case, very sad.

Well, not ALL of the US is that bad. Houston probably has more weapons per capita than any city in America, and you see just how safe it is..

The least safe city is the city you happen to be in when something bad happens to you. Bad sh!t happens everywhere.

Gang initiation?? He looked as old and white as the victim.

Shooting somebody out in broad daylight is risky enough, but on a bike is especially nuts. I'm surprised he didn't get a ticket for not wearing a helmet or something.

If you want to get away with murder, just get in a car, mow down the cyclist, and if you ever DO get caught (assuming the cops can be bothered), it'll be a slap on the wrist as the cops come up with a story about how the cyclist was doing something illegal.

Hey, who's injecting politics here? Only you, by suggesting it! I was just stating fact; Texas has a very high percentage of gun ownership. Texas also has a very high rate of gun violence. What's 'political' about that? Only if you ascribe the problem to particular political ideologies (which I did not).

All politics aside, anybody stands a higher chance of being shot in Texas than in a state which has lower gun ownership. If you want to argue why, or whether this is a good or bad thing, or who might change this, or why it should/shouldn't be changed, go over to 'politics only', and start a thread. I'm not going to do so, and I resent your accusation.

He looked to be in his thirties, but had a 20-year grudge?

Acevedo asked anyone aware of Pappas' whereabouts to call 911. The police chief described Pappas as a "very fit while male" and said it's "highly likely that he left his residence on a bicycle," a 10-speed Schwinn model.

So he looked half his actual age thanks to cycling!

A bike is an excellent getaway vehicle. If those prisoners from upstate NY had used bikes, instead of depending on their flaky warden friend, they'd have made it to Canada before sunrise.

Anyway, this is tragic, and a story that's just something else to worry about in terms of what motivates people to kill.

Apparently he shaved off his mustache, wore large rim glasses and a hat.

Maybe he got the idea from the last two seasons of Bosch which featured a velo borne random shooter only captured after he was run over.
