Pretty shocking. Always got the impression he loved life.

It was suicide, by hanging. He was in France filming a new episode of his show.

I kind of liked his show -- didn't watch it all that much, but what I did watch I liked. He cam e across as someone who was enjoying what he was doing. Hard to understand what drives people to do this. Success isn't always enough I guess.

Totally out of left field, as was Kate Spade's suicide. Really hard to grasp how people who could retire in luxury now wouldn't want to keep on living.

Anthony followed the tap-steps of Hemingway and Tomas Hunter.

My favorite TV personality. By a good margin. Witty, acerbic, discerning but never condescending. I'll miss him a lot.

He has cultivated a taste for culture, and is a celebrated raconteur amongst his local associates, who are artists, actors, and other leftfield/eccentric types. I imagine he has a telescope, and an unusual sculpture outside his front door. He is also a beach comber. The Rydster.

    He was a tortured soul...
To date, philosophers have merely interpreted the world in various ways. The point however is to change it.

Sometimes one is blessed fortune, fame, success and adoration. Yet, however, the dark abyss in their soul convinces them they have nothing to live for.

Human beings are a complicated lot.

    Rest in peace, Anthony.

I've been watching the Bourdain retrospective on CNN. He may have been urbane and charming but he was a tortured soul with an undeniably checkered past. I can see how his demons might have re-emerged. I did not see the final episode he created but Sogno did and she mentioned how angry and tired of it all he seemed to be.
