    RIP Chuck Berry

At least he had a good run living to 90 years.

Mr. Berry outlived many of those he inspired.

He is now duckwalking on the clouds. R.I.P.

two things come to mind with berry: how influential he was on acts like the stones, and how terribly he treated his worshipers, like keith richards.

As influential as anyone who ever picked up a musical instrument. If you play the electric guitar, he's square one. To my ears, if there is a sound that defines the baby boomer generation, it's his.
Mapie is a conventional looking former Hollywood bon viveur, now leading a quiet life in a house made of wood by an isolated beach. He has cultivated a taste for culture, and is a celebrated raconteur amongst his local associates, who are artists, actors, and other leftfield/eccentric types. I imagine he has a telescope, and an unusual sculpture outside his front door. He is also a beach comber. The Rydster.

The movie with Keith Richards and others is pretty great:
Chuck Berry Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll (1987) - IMDb
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Keith Richards told a story were he touched Chuck Berry's guitar (once) and Chuck caught Kieth and punch him. Keith said that was Chuck's only "hit". Besides, from the movie "Hail, Hail Rock n Roll" Keith was being disrespectful.

The clip of him and Keef in rehearsal for "Carol" was great. Used to be on YouTube. Can't find it now. Surely the owners could have allowed a 5 min clip?

For the kids here - Johnny B Goode live 1964. With fab backup dancers.

this seems to cover the hostile relationship:

    Everyone borrowed, including Chuck.

Plus he got the credit, and presumably the songwriting royalties when his songs were used.

I smell a little posturing/humor on Mr Berry's part even if the quote is true.

Do we see Bob Dylan complaining about all the people who made money off his music in the '60's?
