    The Rules (?) again?

I have an opportunity to purchase a Serotta/Sierra Nevada frame set. I did not ride for the team and have never raced. It appears to be be a sweet frame (Fierte IT?) I have been offered it for a great price and will probably buy it no matter what y'all say.

That being said, what sayeth The Lounge?

    1) I haven't actually seen the frame. I ran in to a fella at one of the local pubs that rode in on one. He knew someone on the team and bought 2 complete bikes and 2 frames when they disbanded(?) or changed sponsors. He sold one of the completes and loves the one he kept. He has just been storing the frames.

    2) It has the Sierra Nevada logo on the down tube. What's not to like (I like their beer)?

If some poseur comes up to you and gives you any sh!t about it, simply punch them in the face.

    THAT should be a rule.

Well, I can afford the price he offered it to me, but it may be some time before I can build it up. I'll keep this suggestion in mind though.

Is a throat punch or taint kick also appropriate?

Should we start a new set of rules?

The rules are dumb. If its the right size and you like it that is all that matters. Sounds like a cool frame and definitely not one you will see all over the place. Unique is a plus in my book.

What about a taint punch or throat kick? Go for the gold.

Srsly, anyone who openly sneers at someone else's jersey or bike should get a pump through their spokes.

Of course, said poseur would probably then whine about what brand of pump was put through their spokes.

If you know all the frame specs, and are sure that the frame will fit you perfectly (top tube length and frame angles), why not.

Riding a "Team Issue" frame is not the same as wearing a full team kit.

The Rules are stupid. So very very very stupid.

I usually ride really understated frames, but the SN-Serotta frame is awesome (IMHO). Definitely grab it if it fits and the price is right. No one is going to assume you rode for the team. They made a lot of them.

Only if you get full team kit to go with it. Even better if there are world champion stripes on the sleeves. Get the dang bike if it pleases you. BTW the team went under (or at least that sponsor gave up) in 2007, so you will be retro cool.

    Don't worry about it.

My first racing frame was a beat up Gios from the Brooklyn team. Coolest team ever. One of the nicest bikes ever.

At no point did I ever feel guilty riding it. Even though I was a lousy racer.
