Hey, Creaky.. send me a PM if you have a need for equipment that's a bit more specialized. All of my wife's research involves populations with disabilities, so she uses specialty bikes, handbikes, adult-sized training wheels, etc.. and has links/contact info for several manufacturers.

When you say "ride" do you mean "get around" or do you mean "ride hard"?

If the former, I got my son a Workman as I was able to get it in a fixie. He has poor coordination, especially with his hands and thus being able to stop the trike with his feet is key. The Joyrider at Trailmate may work too: http://www.trailmate.com/productJoyRider.cfm

If the latter, there are specialty builders out there that build recumbant style trikes that may keep him riding with a roadie group. http://www.terratrike.com/

Check this out for advice : http://peter.ca/trikes/how-to-buy-a-trike.html

If you are looking for something sporty, check out the Tadpole. Those things look like fun (even though I hate to admit it).
