Unfortunately, the much reviled owner Norm Green actually changed the name and logo to the Stars while they were still in Minnesota. He originally was after moving the team to L.A., but the NHL decided to approve the Anaheim Ducks as an expansion team instead. The NHL gave approval for Green to "relocate" the team though, and off to Dallas he went (and one of the supposed reasons was because of a sexual harassment suit against him in Minnesota). Bleeecccch!

In that vein there are the Hollister Haybalers (think name of school changed to San Benito). I laugh when I see folks in the "Hollister" clothing -- have they ever been there?

Crimson Tide. But I guess it depends if this particular algae is still considered a plant.

Well, the Cleveland Browns may not be named after a plant, but they definitely play like what fertilizes them.
