    Summer movies.

Decided not to see RED 2 or RIPD today based on reviews. Maybe next week. August 16th Kickass 2 comes out, can't wait to see that. If you didn't see the first Kickass you're doing yourself a dis-service

Not too sure about the new Wolverine movie, I can't seem to get pumped up for it. I almost want to see Pacific Rim in the theater again.

The Heat was pretty funny. If you've got brothers or sisters, a lot of the comedy came from sibling rivalry kinda dynamic. Funny movie, nice way to be entertained for a few hours.

Pacific Rim is good but only if you see it in Imax 3d.

I saw it in 2D and enjoyed it.

I passed on seeing it in 3D because I heard in advance a lot of the big battle sequences were darkly-lit (and they were), and 3D often makes that worse... to the point where it's hard to see what's going on.

O.k., you guys are probably going to hammer me for this and I know that the media absolutely crushed "The Lone Ranger"....but I saw it with my wife over the weekend and we really enjoyed it. Sure, it's not going to win any awards but it was fun, made us chuckle, had a very good prolonged chase scene at the end, and was well worth the price of admission. I like to have a good time and be entertained by a movie, and this one fit the bill for me.

We also saw Star Trek earlier in the summer and really enjoyed that one too.

Still to see: Heat and RED2.

    RIPD got terrible reviews.

This one is a particularly nice ass reaming, in its own way.

I have seen two, -the way way back- and -white house down-. I like the way way back better. I saw it it with the kids 12-14-16 (girls) and they loved it...

    So far only saw:

The Lone Ranger - I don't think it's as bad as reviews put out.
White House Down - arguably unoriginal in many ways, but I still found it very entertaining.

Really wanna catch Pacific Rim as apparently all my friends liked it. Kinda knew RIPD was in the race for worst movie of the year. Not sure if Star Trek: Into Darkness counts, but that's probably my fav movie of the year period.

It's a Schtick and got the review some publicity. But it was funny, so I'll give him a pass.

Oh, I wasn't being sarcastic at all. I think films like R.I.P.D. really bring out the smart-ass in film reviewers, and rightfully so.

It's awesome reading a reviewer tear a movie a new one when said film really does totally deserve it.

I'm almost tempted to see R.I.P.D. now, just to see how bad bad can get.

I got that you appreciated the review.

Bad movies are best with a group, in a theater that sells beer. Or on Netflix.

Most bad movies are bad because they are numbingly boring. If they are exciting, but stupefyingly bad, they wind up cult classics.

'Good bad' movies tend to be incredibly and unintentionally funny.

It's hard to do it on purpose (though some SyFy Channel original movies have been succeeding at this)... it usually has to be a very heartfelt and earnest total colossal failure.

There's a terrific documentary on Troll 2, called The Best Worst Movie. I highly recommend it.

We only see one or two movies per year and our one was Star Trek: Into Darkness. We really like the film, it also received the first open applause at the end that I've heard in a long time, like decades now.

We'll probably see Wolverine simply because we like Hugh Jackman films and the storyline that goes with that character. We might break our 2 per year limit when Ender's Game comes out too, I've read the book a number of times and the hype from the film appeals to me.

Ahem . . . It was my day off and I was intrigued about all this bad rep on this "R.I.P.D." movie. Could it really be that bad? Well, it was bad but not in the so-bad-that-it's-good bad. I could see a germ of a good movie in there (somewhere). Too bad. The only good thing about this movie is Mary-Louise Parker. In "Red 2" she was woefully cast as Bruce Willis's lover (kinda felt creepy) in "R.I.P.D." there was a backstory between herself and Jeff Bridges.

Anyway . . . the only unintentional laugh by me came when Roy (Jeff Bridges) discloses his fetish for woman's ankles. The only sage advice my grandfather ever gave me was this: "Look at a woman's ankles. If they are fat it means she is lazy."

So, define the level of suckiness. Was it

    - Merely 'bad'.
    - Painfully bad.
    - Memorably, epic-ly bad.
    - So bad that you wanted to fly to Hollywood and beat the ppl responsible.
    - So very bad that you've lost all faith in mankind, and your soul is but a shattered husk.

We went to see "Way Way Back" yesterday and loved it. Great, great movie. And for the Steve Carrel fans/haters out there, his role is unlike any other he's played before....kinda neat to see him as the villain. I highly recommend this one.
