    Used dogs are interesting

We had to let Sparky the beagle mix go a while back, and Rocky should have a pal.

Last week a friendís relativeís daughterís cousinís something or other posted news of a dog who needed a home, because grandma fell and went into skilled nursing.

So we went and met the guy. It was pretty tame, and they seemed to get along. We took him home over the weekend. That was tough for a couple days... he has a leaky wiener, some other things, and did not handle the change well. Barked his ass off. No sleep etc.

    For us.

He slept like a baby the next day.

Mrs 10ae made friends with him, though, and he is settling in pretty well. Last nightís 600 bucks at the vet will be step 1.

Used dogs are pricey, like used cars that come with special instructions.

Meet Spot. He came with the name.

That's a good looking fella' that now has a home to live out the rest of his life. Not many dogs get that period and certainly not at that age.

    'Ya done a good thing.

That's wonderful you took this poor senior in. Not many people would do that.

Are you able to take Spot into the home where his previous owner is now for a visit?

Great story. I have been reading all the dog and cat threads lately and it cheers me up greatly. 10ae1203, you've done the gracious and kind to an elderly. Two thumbs up.

    10ae1203,
That was very kind of you and the Mrs. bringing Spot into your home.
This thread could use a Rocky photo. I have not seen him in a while.

If the nursing home permits, maybe bring Spot to visit his former owner occasionally. I'm sure they'd both appreciate it.

The nursing home my mother lived at permitted dogs as long as they were on a leash and behaved. The residents loved petting them.

Some Spot news on this chilly evening.

Heís anemic, has a couple elevated blood levels, and a sack of pills now.

Now that heís not eating mostly treats and bargain food, heís got a spring in his step like a dog of 10 or 11.

Heís snoring by the fireplace right now waiting for his lady friend to come home.

Nice. We got ours used, too. He was around three years old and had already had two owners. No one ever bothered to potty train him. It was a pretty wild couple of weeks (one mattress, one couch and one rug ruined) but all good now. Except we still have this sort of situation quite often...

The last dog I had was a rescue Great Dane. I think he'd had a hard life and very much appreciated living in my home. I still miss him.

Good for you adopting that old dog. He looks pretty cool.

Mr. Spot has passed after a short and sudden illness.

    We are sad.

    Rocky is devastated.

We had a family event here today, and I swear he took the time to visit with everyone.

Dogs are a gift, and we are lucky to have their company.

Oh jeez, I am so sad and sorry to hear this.

You did such a good thing taking him in, no expectations of how long.

I have a cat nearing 16, with stories like Spot reminding me every day is precious.

    That is sad news.
You and the Mrs. can take comfort how Spot lived the final chapter of his life. He ate good, had quality sleeping arrangements and plenty of attention.
