What’s on your holiday music playlist?

It’s not the holidays until I hear X on the radio... Solve for X.

Show your work. Not just song titles... whose version is the definitive one in your opinion?

The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
    White Christmas - Bing Crosby
The entire soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” - The Vince Guaraldi Trio

I wouldn't expect this to have anything to do with the Christmas season for anyone else, but...

My mom baked a ridiculous amount of cookies for Christmas and opening day of Christmas cookie baking season always began with the Jethro Tull Aqualung album. I have no idea what it signified in regards to the season for her, she never said, but for me now, it's good memories of Christmas with mom. So I put the album on every year when I'm putting up the tree and it officially kicks off the season for me.

Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb.
Mapie is a conventional looking former Hollywood bon viveur, now leading a quiet life in a house made of wood by an isolated beach. He has cultivated a taste for culture, and is a celebrated raconteur amongst his local associates, who are artists, actors, and other leftfield/eccentric types. I imagine he has a telescope, and an unusual sculpture outside his front door. He is also a beach comber. The Rydster.

I grew up about 3 blocks from Bing Crosby's childhood home but these are two of my favorites.

What’s on your holiday music playlist?

In the current climate “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” takes on an odd tinge...

Kinda the way “Santa Baby” always has...

Strictly in the interest of being a jerk, at work today I started singing...

I'm dreaming of a white christmas

    ...as...

I'm inclusive of a multicultural rainbow holiday

...and there were people who approved. So that backfired on me.

a rambling epic about a dying fish with a will to love and with a crackling fire in the background works for me.

will to love, from the neil young album, american stars n bars

the wiki entry says he recorded it in one take on a 2-track cassette in front of a fireplace and mixed it himself in one night.

If she was still with us, she would be 68... but that doesn't make me the young whippersnapper it may sound like it would. She was pretty young when I was born.

Last year we spent Christmas in Tanzania, and oldies, especially Jim Reeves seemed popular there. I recall the Jim Reeves Christmas album from my youth, so I downloaded it off Amazon and am listening to it. Such a great voice.
