    Riding Bloomington-Breaking Away?

My daughter and her husband have moved to upstate IN and we want to come an visit sometime in 2012. I "think" I have heard of some kind of formal ride in the Bloomington area that is tied in some way with the movie Breaking Away. Either it rides some of the same roads or rides past some of the sites in the movie, etc.

Can anyone provide any info? Thanks much.

    BBC breaking away ride

Hi....yes each year, usually around IU's Little 500 bike race, our local bike club, Bloomington Bicycle Club, has a ride that goes through town. We stop at some of the points of interest that are mentioned/shown in the movie "Breaking Away."
It's not a hammer fest ride, as it has many stops, dialogue, and I think covers 35-50 miles. Always fun. Let me see if I can find anymore info on it and will keep you posted.

I'm not a hammerfest guy...necessarily. My wife and I would love make the drive up from Atlanta to do this and then stop to see our daughter in LaPorte. Please keep me posted and in the meantime I'll see if I can find your website.

    Thanks.

If you go for that ride, you HAVE to see the Little 500 as well!

Would like any info on the Little 500 you can provide also. Benn wanting to take that in one of these years and now with the ride info, may just have to plan on doing it this year.

    FYI....
This years ride is on Sunday, April 15th.

    Nice N Easy Ride
    When
    Sun, April 15, 1:30pm 4:30pm
    Where
Bryan Park Pool Parking Lot @ 39.15435,-86.523 (map)
    Description
The Nice N Easy Ride will join the Breaking Away Ride.

If you just can't get enough of The Little 500 (held this year April 20-21), then you should come ride the BBC Breaking Away Ride on Sunday, April 15. It's a nostalgic ride that visits many of the scenes in the classic 1979 movie Breaking Away. Ride by the Dave Stohler house and shout "Refund! Refund!" Many more landmarks will be called out by ride leader who has seen the movie well over 100 times. The ride is only 31 miles and includes one rest stop. See the movie before you go, then ride the movie rich in local history. See you Sunday at Bryan Park Pool parking lot for a 1:30 p.m. departure. Ciao!

dang, wish I'd seen this earlier ..... I don't check the regional forums often enough.

I've done a few of the BBC's "Breaking Away Rides", they're always fun and very laid back.

I'm one of the Little 500 race officials, so I always have a great spot to watch the race from ... the infield.

Hope you get to see the races this year.

    Little 500

Here is a re-cap of the Little 500 race....
62nd annual Little 500 sees unique, rowdy racing
Since these races ( men's & womens ) are held in April, on an outside cinder track, there is always a chance of foul weather which induces crashes? My wife works/teaches at IU, and invaribly from the time they start training in late winter/early spring to the completion of the weekend, a student or two of hers will show up for class with a broken collar bone.
