My husband I are thinking about bringing our road bikes to Wisconsin to ride this summer (2015). We are considering the Madison area just because it's easy to access by plane. We know nothing about the area and and wondering if the cycling there is worth the trip from Texas. Are there plenty of places to enjoy 50+ mile rides? Also, what is the best time to come when rain is the least likely? Finally, if we come to Madison, which area of town should we stay in to easily access bike routes? Thanks.
I Have not ridden around the Madison area, but the west side of Wisconsin is my favorite area to ride. Buffalo, La Crosse, and trempealeau counties offer almost endless paved roads with very little traffic. There are plenty of hills and the scenery is excellent.
It rains some in the summer, but not everyday. If you don't mind hot weather, it usually rains less in July and August.
