CANADIAN POLITICS: "The Death of Freedom"

Adam Kingsmith: The Slow and Painful Death of Freedom in Canada

I had no idea is was this bad up there.

thread title edited -- the above is an example of the clarity we are looking for in thread subjects and titles. The original thread title read "The death of politics: in canada." The OP intends to discuss the general subject of Canadian politics ("rights," "liberties," would also make sense) and the title, now in quotation marks, is also the title of an opinion piece the OP wishes us to read -- indeed, which yours truly shall do now. This is an interesting subject, as so much of the politics in the forum are America-centered.-- ag
Whenever the legislators endeavour to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence - John Locke

Hey, the United States rose fifteen places on the Press Freedom Index, and now we're at #32, just behind Ghana and Suriname.

    USA! USA! USA!

The first year it was compiled, 2002, the US came in at 17th.

By the next year, the mainland US was 31st at home, 135th in Iraq.

By the year after that, the US was at 22nd, and 108th, respectively.

After the Bush reelection, the country slipped down to 44th/137th, 56th/119th, (no data for 2007), closing out the Bush years at 41st/119th.

    Yep, that's conservatism for you.

    So predictable!

Bush41 and Bush43 are not conservatives by a long stretch. I thought you knew that.

They are Republicans with some conservative views. More like a pre-'70's Democrat.

The only 'Republican' worse than the Bushs is Bloomberg, who is a full-on socialist liberal. He only changed Party to run against a Democrat incumbent.

By that measuring stick, Reagan, Ford and Nixon were no true Scotsmen either.

Let me guess, you voted for both George HW Bush and George W Bush twice each or as many time as was legally possible, am I right? So predictable indeed!

That's what I'm wondering- when will America elect a "real" conservative? I don't mean poseur conservatives like Goldwater and Reagan, I mean a real honest to God conservative. Will it happen in 2016?

I had hopes for Rand Paul but now I see him walking back his opposition to the Civil Rights Act being imposed on private business. He's going moderate just like the rest of the RINOs.

Gee, the Bushes all seem to disagree with you. By a long stretch. Guess they aren't familiar with your personal litmus test for true believers.

BTW, none of the data given apply to Bush 1.0; that index only goes back to 2002.

    So predictable!
