Clearly drugs or mental illness or both. Tragic for whatever reason.

What is there to discuss? Almost no facts are known about the case.

We would just be discussing our preconceptions about a motive. Little point in that.

At least the government won't waste a lot of money on a court trial.

I think it will be difficult to have a reasonable discussion until we learn from Al and Jesse whether or not anyone was profiled.

Speaking of mental illness, if a mentally ill person believes that his life is in danger is he justfied in killing the offenders????
What if the offender pushes him so that he falls and hits the back of his head, on the road????

Don't you think that law abiding mentally ill people have the same rights as semi-sane Americans? You want to take away their Second amendments rights????
Shame on you....They have a right to defend themselves, don't they?

Colbert, The Onion, to bad Stewart is on sabbatical. That cuts the "go to" leftie news sources by one third. Of course there also is MS and MM.

If the point that you are attempting to make is that there is inadequate treatment for the mentally ill, you are correct.

But actually the thinking displayed in your post is what led groups such as the ACLU to lobby for the right of insane people to be insane which resulted in a much reduced ability for family members and medical experts to have those that needed mental illness therapy admitted and held in hospitals for treatment. It takes a court order for a family member to commit someone, another court order to hold them against their will, and another court order to prescribe and monitor medications. Before these reforms in the 60's the US had ~ 500,000 mental hospital beds. Allowing for population increase we should have ~ 1,000,000 beds today. The US has ~ 40,000 - approximately 4% of what is needed. Consequently we get Aurora, NewTown, Tuscon, and now it appears Hialeah among many others. Mental illness is involved in almost all mass murder cases.

How could that happen? The right to self-defense isn't exactly covered under the 2nd (but rather an auxiliary right, supporting the natural rights of self-defense). Natural rights... are bestowed on man by his creator? Do you think people are God's? Do, you think the government is a God? Do you wish to relegate a portion of the population to some sort of slave class (reduced rights)?

Isn't that what everyone on PO does, even after the facts are known?

Not sure how you connect this to SYG and he is arrested and charged with 1st degree murder. What lack of justice are you worried about?

He was defending himself. Should have simply been released after making his statement to the police.

Anyone know if they got a background check before pulling the triggers and if Florida requires periodic drug & mental health tests for maintaining gun ownership?
