You and Donald are lying again.

Merkel affirmed that NATO is still on the path to achieving the goals set under Obama

    Liar liar pants on fire.

She affirmed they are on "this path". It's the path since Obama. They've been on the path.

Sorry "pardner" but Obama isn't out of the picture since it's the same path since Obama. And Trump can't stop talking about Obama (mentioned him numerous times at NATO), and keeps trying to take credit for things Obama has done.
You'd think for someone who hates Obama so much, he'd stop trying to attach himself to Obama.

She said "The American president [who happens to be Trump] demanded what has been discussed for months [in the last year and a half with the Trump administration] that there is a change in the burden [of] sharing [the issue Trump just raised with them]. She then agreed with Trump that "this is in our own interests and that it will make us stronger." That's affirmative, cowboys. She's giving credit to Trump. Obama wasn't there.

But I see what you're doing: transferring credit for another Trump happening to Obama, the deposed saint. Forgive me!

    Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte

”The NATO member states reaffirmed their pledge to increase their defence budgets in conformity with the Wales Defence Investment Pledge”.

The Wales pledge is from 2014.

When asked on Dutch TV 6pm evening news if any new money was pledged, Rutte said “no”.

Well done Obama to actually have reached an agreement with NATO member states to increase defence budgets in 2014!

    It was all a lie

    https://www.mediaite.com/tv/macron-d...-beyond-goals/

Nobody agreed to increase the goal. It is a goal, not a commitment, and the US does not even spend 4% of GDP.

Wasn't someone just pushing the lie that Trump tells the truth?
“Commitments were made,” he [Trump] said. “The commitment was at 2 percent, ultimately that’ll be going up quite a bit higher than that.”

French President Emmanuel Macron denied that any NATO members had agreed to boost contributions beyond 2 percent GDP.

“There is a communique that was published yesterday. It’s very detailed,” Macron said, per the Associated Press. “It confirms the goal of 2 percent by 2024. That’s all.”

Macron also denied reports that Trump had threatened to withdraw from the NATO alliance.

“President Trump never at any moment, either in public or in private, threatened to withdraw from NATO,” Macron said.

But NATO gonna up the ante to 2%! "That's great!" as Trump would say! "And believe me, they'll go more! " That ain't no lie! [If they go over 2%! ]

Yes, it would be nice to hear what Trump has to say about doing it on our own, but he doesn't mean withdrawing from NATO. He's stated many times he supports NATO.

NATO pledged way back in 2014 to up the ante to 2%, and have been working toward that ever since. Macron confirmed that that level won't be increasing.

That Trump said it will isn't a surprise. Trump says a lot of shite that isn't true.

Trump's loyal followers love it when he lies. They call it "Telling it like it is"

His turned the lying up to 11 in Belgium. No wonder the trolls are so happy.

Just repeated the lie that "Germany gets 70% of its energy from Russia". He even upped it to 80% now.

    Yes, he definitely said energy.

He also said in this morning's remarks that the US pays 90% of the cost of NATO. He seems to up this number every time he speaks. What a moron

And people like Trump because he "Tells it like it is"?

Have Liberals missed the point that Europe had to be shamed into defending themselves?

Huh? How would they have missed it? Obama did the shaming, and his effort worked.

Trump supporters are so desperate for a real success they are trying to claim one of Obama's triumphs as if it were Trump's. Sad.

I don't know. I read this thread and it sounded like Europeans were anxious to spend more.

Well, I was an Obama supporter big time, but wasn't reading anything in the liberal media talking up Obama's "shaming" NATO members to up their funding. Never heard of it until mentioned here.

Obama was an administrator who ran quietly and made rousing speeches once in a while. But he never took full advantage of the bully pulpit. Trump is the first POTUS in a long time who regularly holds rallies. "Connecting to the people" on the emotional level is a leadership quality great politicians have, even despite intellectual or personality handicaps.

If Trump can't get other world leaders to do what he wants, then he's failed, regardless. So far, his probably over ambitious agenda, such as building his wall, denuclearizing NK, and evening the balance of trade, haven't produced desired results, but he takes a few steps forward getting what he wants. That's how it works in American politics, the genius of the oldest true democracy in the world. Pass the popcorn.

    Which means it never happened.

Trump depends on the poorly educated and ill informed for his lies to work. This week was an excellent example.
