Suing for emotional distress over a ticket? This lady has got to be a loon. That's OK with me as long as she's a libbie-loon.

Yeah, but how would you like to be arrested over a bumper sticker on your car? That cop was an ass and deserves to be taken down a few pegs.

Didn't we try something like that once? I don't think it worked too well.

Can't you picture it though? To get south of the MD you might be required to recite a random Bible verse or something. To get north you might need to say you believe in gay marriage and kiss the border guard on the lips to prove it. Trust me. It'd be heaven with all us heathens in the north. Non-stop party it would be.

i was arrested for attempting to take a picture in a public place - i know first hand the emotional distress this lady must have endured. funny how perspective changes after one has their rights violated...

well I would find it distressful

if I as an American was being arrested for expressing my opinion which I still thought was a guaranteed right under the Constitution.

toss the cop in jail and say he gets released when he has the Bill of Rights memorized.

Maybe they should toss the legislatures who passed the law in the first place into jail until they can recite the US constitution.

I think that's giving them way too much. I could give them, say, Alabama, or maybe Texas. You know, some place we don't really need. Let them run it however they want. But everything south of the Mason-Dixon? No way.

To be successful though...we'd have to build it 3rd generation Berlin wall style...could take a while--it's an awfully longways...

The only reason there's a damages claim is that you have to have nominal damages to avoid a possible mootness problem. It's a legal tactic (I've handled First Amendment cases for ACLU before). This is about getting a declaratory order and potentially an attorney's fees award against the government.

I don't think the justice system needs to turn a blind eye to the abuse of police authority, so I'm okay with it.

If the cop thought that the law was still on the books, he was within his right to give her a ticket. On the other hand, when a cop makes a mistake like that, "something" should happen to him.

The Mason-Dixon line would not work for me -- I would have to move North. Now if we were to make it to Potomac River, I might be able to accept the division.

One thing that always amuses me is the great gap between the professed beliefs of the fundies and prudes and their actions. I we were to put all of fundies and prudes who actually practice what they preach, we probably could fit all of them into one or two very small states.
I try to be perfectly civil, until someone really pisses me off.

Wait a minute. What do we do with Florida? The North needs to at least keep the Keys and South Beach. The South can have the panhandle.

The fence wouldn't even have to be that long, just from the ocean south of Miami back out into the swamp a little bit and let the sharks and gators take care of anyone trying to sneak around.

While they're at it the South can encircle itself with that wall seeing as they'll no doubt want to keep the Mexicans out.

Name a democratic presidential candidate that won without carrying the South. Again, is there a single person in your party that majored in marketing?

Not so cut and dry...first there is no way in cold bloody hell you are going to get me to move north...its is frikkin cold up there! And don't get me started about you wackos in Cali...

But here in N.C. we have had more than our fair share of strong as hell democrats (largely unnoticed nationally and I would NEVER include Edwards as one of them)...Hunt is an icon Easley is in his second term...we have a Democratic majority (sort of long story) in the legislature. And it looks as if the Dems are going to pick up 4 to 6 more Governerships...giving them a clear majority nationwide. Then there is Warner in Virginia handing it off to his Lt. Governer. In 06 it appears that the Dems could concievably pick up Colorado, Arkansas and hold Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New Mexico...just to name some.
