    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...=all#pagebreak

That is an awesome deal!!! Charging rent to the people that protect your family....

I wonder if he'll report that income in his taxes?

Letting them stay there for free sounds eerily like Socialism to me. If the SS can find a better deal somewhere else they should take it. The invisible hand at work!

If I titled it "SS pays Cheney per month for rent".... it would have generated a bigger response and outcries about the Bush-cheney corruption....

But at least the Clintons didn't accept rent from the Secret Service for Hillary's NY home.

Apparently you're supposed to surrender all personal property to the people when you are elected to serve in the excutuve branch of the US government.

Really? Give it a shot. I really don't care, but if it'll make your black and white world a little more bright I'll pretend to get all indignant over it.

I wouldn't all be surprised if the Secret Service did pay actually rent to Cheney at some point. Please feel free to use Google and the search function for this site to find evidence of such an arrangement and reactionary outcry. I'd really like to see what sort of moron would protest that... oh wait... never mind... right here in front of our noses.

Well it is his place to rent.. and if they sit there he loses the option of renting it. What is wrong there? Now had he jacked the price up in the process it would be different.

I wonder how much the SS paid for rent in their previous location. If this is equal or less it would seem to be no real problem.

Here's last year's tax return. Look for yourself. It's a very easy question to answer if you actually cared.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/defa...POTUStaxes.pdf

Hey, there it is! Schedule E, line 3. He reported $13,200 in rental income for 2010. Minus $2200 in commissions. Net rental income = $11,000. Right there. On his taxes!!!! Amazing.

I guess this is no guarantee he'll report the income on his 2011 taxes. But now that you know where to look, I'm sure you'll be all over it if he doesn't. We'll stay tuned.

Because market rates for rents never go up or vary by location?

It even said that in the article. I'm not sure the OP made it past the headline...

Soon cons will be bleating that D's in the United States presidential line of succession should pay for their own security and transportation.

The SS gets charged more to live next to the biden household, than their previous location... I believe about $350 per month more.

Biden technically never registered the cottage as rental property per New Castle County regulations.... luckily, renting to the SS negates that, until Biden is out of office.

That was a choice the SS made. Biden didn't force them to rent his cottage.

they took advantage of simplified acquisition procedures which is federal law, which did not require competition... which is the same law which made everyone pissed about how Haliburton got their contracts during the Bush-Cheney era.

Oh yes... Haliburton does compare to biden due to acquisition laws.

Well I think we'd have a right to be upset that not only have the Nazi secret police been in existence as recently as 3 years ago, but also that the US government was working with them.

Where is the potential competition in the immediate area located, the neighbor's garden shed, a gopher hole in the yard?

Pretty close. There's not much in the way of lodging nearby...not close enough to be useful anyway.

The GSA lodging rate for northern Delaware is $109/night. $109 * 30 nights = $3270.

$2200 a month for a place that can house several agents and is minutes away from the main residence is a pretty good deal....

    Good for all of them.

The article stupidly wonders why the Secret Service offered Biden a "no bid contract" to rent the cottage next to his beach house! Well, damn, they wanted that particular house, not one down the street! Protective service, right?

Meanwhile we have Mitt Romney "Selling his million dollar estate" and living in an unfinished part of the basement in his son's house. I guess the right wing media has to keep up with the left wing media when one breaks a story on the other suggesting financial malfeasance.

Who cares? Let the SS agents enjoy the sea breezes, while they're doing their job!
